Abstract

This research aimed to examine skills-based mathematics questions at the fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-grade levels. In line with this aim, the design was determined as document analysis. The data consist of 370 skills-based math questions. The researchers created the evaluation diagram for use in the data analysis. This diagram is divided into two sections: question type and content. The question-type section is divided into two dimensions: verbal and visual; the content section is divided into two dimensions: environment and association. The analysis revealed that a significant part of skills-based problems consisted of visuals. In visual questions, pictures/shapes were used the most; these visuals were intended to be informational. The questions were also associated with daily life. In addition, the study revealed that non-technological context is dominant in the questions.
