A Cultural Review: Pedagogy and Educational Documentaries

The aim of this study is to compare the educational documentaries, 3 Saat: Bir ÖSS Belgeseli, İki Dil Bir Bavul ve Çöpte Dostoyevski Buldum, and to discuss the pedagogical dimensions of documentary films in particular and cultural production in general. The current theoretical framework of pedagogy in the field of cultural studies and then the pedagogical aspect of cultural production in terms of sample films and cinema is also evaluated. Since documentary production is limited in Turkey, there is almost no documentary production in the field of education. Studies on educational documentaries are also limited. In this study, these rare documentaries shot in the field of education in Turkey are evaluated using of B. Nichols' analysis of documentary genres and the function, meaning and dimensions of cinematic pedagogy in education are examined.
