The Views of Supervisors related to Exemption from Class/Lesson Supervisions

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the views of supervisors related to being exempt from their classroom supervisions. The study group was composed of 24 supervisors working in Ankara, selected by maximum variation sampling method. As the data collection tool, a semi structured interview form composed of only one open ended question, piloting was done, and then, the interviewes were done with the inspector inspectors. The data were analyzed through descriptive content analysis technique. The findings indicated that the system is unsupervised after taking over this role from the supervisors; the wholness of the supervision is disappeared; the attainments of the students and the performance of teachers cannot be followed; what is done in the class is not clearly identified subjective behaviors by school adminstrators have impact on inspectory practices; and school adminstrators do not have enough qualifications about classroom supervision. The results of the study also suggest that classroom supervisions should be done by supervisors. Classroom supervision should be carried out by an expert and this would contribute to the system positively.
