The comfort level of patients undergoing cranial and spinal surgery and the factors affecting

Abstract

Objective: The problems experienced in the surgical period cause the patient's comfort to deteriorate. This study aims to determine the comfort level and the factors that affect the patients undergoing cranial and spinal surgery. Methods: The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in a university hospital's cranial and spinal surgery clinic with the participation of 100 patients between August 2022 and January 2023. Data collection tools were the patient promotional form and the Perianesthesia Comfort Questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the patients participating in the study was 57.3 ± 16.3 years. 61% of the patients were male and 71% had surgical experience. Patients' Perianesthesia Comfort Questionnaire the total mean score was determined as 4.48±1.14. According to the presence of pain, the patients' Perianesthesia Comfort Questionnaire's mean score was statistically significantly different. Conclusion: Patients' comfort with cranial and spinal surgery was found to be moderate. Surgical nurses should intervene to increase the comfort levels of the patients. In particular, it should increase patients' comfort by providing pain control after surgery.
