Abstract

Objective: The research was conducted descriptively and cross-sectionally to determine the perceptions of nursing care behavior of patients with physical disabilities and the factors affecting this perception. Method: The research was conducted between March and May 2018 in 17 state hospitals with the participation of 510 physically handicapped patients. The data were collected by using the ‘Descriptive Characteristics Form’, ‘Barthel Daily Living Activities Index’ and ‘Caring Behaviors Inventory-24’. Results: It was determined that the total mean scores of the scale were statistically different according to gender, age, living alone at home, education status, working status, having a chronic disease, previous hospital experience, continuous use of the hospital, and the number of hospital admission days. A significant relationship was found between Barthel Activities of Daily Living Index scores, descriptive features, and satisfaction status. The most effective variables on nurses' care behaviors are the general satisfaction status, BI, number of hospitalization days, age group, gender and how many times patients come to the hospital were found. Conclusion: Dependence level, perception of nursing care behaviors, and general satisfaction status of patients with physical handicaps were found to be high. According to the results, attempts should be made to increase the perception of nursing care behavior to increase the satisfaction status of patients who need nursing care more.
