Abstract

ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of bullying and victimization in high school students and the variation of bullying according to sociodemographic characteristics. Method: This descriptive study was conducted with 478 students in science and vocational high schools located on the same campus in the Eastern Black Sea Region. In the collection of the data, the approval of the governor, the approval of the ethics committee and the necessary consents were obtained. Data on "Assessing the Scale-Adolescent Peer Bullying Form" based on self-report using questionnaires and collected by face to face. In the analysis percentage, average, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, one-way analysis of variance, t-test, Tukey test was used. Results: The average physical bullying; X̅ = 1.67 ± 0.77, the highest mean and physical victimization to other peer bullying species; X̅ = 1.87 ± 0.76 was found to be the highest compared to other types of victimization. It was found that 9th grade students were bullied and victims more than the other classes. According to students; bullying incidents occur in school areas with a maximum of 17.3%. Conclusions: Necessary guidance should be planned for the prevention of physical bullying and victimization throughout the school. Preventive and preventive measures should be taken for all 9th grade students who are the most bullied and exposed to bullying and the students staying on the board.
